It is a commonly held belief that if a traveller gets into medical difficulties overseas, the embassy or consulate will solve the problem.


In most cases they are willing to help but are limited in what they can actually do.


It is the traveller's responsibility to ensure that they have adequate insurance in the event of illness or injury overseas.
